Relevant Backstory: Milo is the heir to the Wrathian throne, but due to how the system works, they have to formally duel their father (Moriandor) to the death in what’s called a “crowning duel” in order to prove themself worthy. Milo watched their brother (Rayalion) get beheaded by Moriandor years ago during his crowning duel. Milo doesn’t really want to have to kill anybody, nor do they want the throne, so they’ve been dreading turning 21 because by that point in your life you are legally required to attempt your crowning duel. Milo volunteerd themself for the prophecy voyage as an attempt to avoid their crowning duel, which ended up failing.

Extra Backstory: Milo had a great relationship with Rayalion before his death. Moriandor didn’t have much time for his children due to his duties, so Tundra and Rayalion basically raised Milo. This is part of the reason that Milo sees Tundra as more of a father than Moriandor. After seeing Rayalion’s death, Milo began to have many mixed feelings about their father.

How it ends up: Milo is forced into their crowning duel after the prophecy journey is resolved. They end up killing their father in the arena by mistake while trying to defend themself. Milo is crowned the ruler of Wraithe for all of a week or two before caving from stress and peacefully passing the crown to an uncle, a legal but unusual occurrance. Milo ends up leaving the Wrathian Palace behind and moving into the capital instead.
